Motivated Mom Boss

God continues to amaze me. For those of you who may have watched my live after Maven was born, I shared in detail why the number 818 is very significant to my husband and I.

God continually has this number pop up everywhere, in the most crazy ways. Like sooo many cool God stories that I know I will share in my book one day.

It's the name God gave my husband for his business (that he started many years ago). It stems from Deut 8:18 which talks about how it's God who is the one who gives us the ability to create wealth.

Those who know our story know that we've faced a lot of financial hardship and struggle in our past. We went through losing a home, a car, job losses, having thousands of dollars in debt and yet we knew that we knew that we knew that God had incredible financial blessing for our future. Dreams, visions and ideas we felt He birthed in us that we were supposed to pursue and see come to life.

During our very low times, during the disappointments, job losses, economy crash of 08', threatened law suits, doubts and spoken and unspoken comments & thoughts from people who I know felt we weren't making wise decisions (because you know, in the natural, leaving a job without having another one isn't ideal) God would continue to show us the number 818 - in the craziest ways. It was a reminder to my husband and I to shut out the world and only listen to His voice. God's voice. It doesn't matter what your family may think or your friends. Let them think you're making foolish decisions. Let them make their comments. Let them think you're crazy. Because when God speaks to you, the world's "voices" really don't matter.

Seeing 818 pop up so often was a reminder to our hearts that God hadn't left us and to keep trusting Him and know that one day it will all make sense. One day those dreams will be part of our testimony and that He was going to turn it all around. To keep believing regardless of our circumstances. To know that even when things don't make sense in the natural and don't look like what we believe is coming for our future, to stay the course and just wait and rest in God and trust He will do it in His time. To wait for the miracles and know God will put all the pieces of our puzzle together.

There is a major shift happening in our lives right now. After over a decade of struggle and hardship, God is blessing our businesses, opening up doors, aligning the right people with us, it's amazing. But, we have to MOVE OUR FEET friends. We have to run after our God given dreams. We have to ask God to open doors, bring new opportunities. And then? And then we have to STEP OUT.

I felt God gave me a word a few months ago. I wrote it down quickly....hoped to blog about it at some point but haven't, until now. The word was...

Sometimes we have to step OUT, so we can step IN to what God has for us.

Soooo good, right? Friends, we cannot pray for God to open doors and bring opportunities for financial blessing if we aren't willing to walk it out. Can I get a AMEN?!

Before I joined my social media based business, Monat, almost two years ago, I was praying for God to bring another stream of income for our family. My husband's business, 818, is thriving... but when I was praying for God to open up another door for me financially, his business was just about a year old at the time (so three years ago now) and while it was going well, it was going to take time to build (as most businesses do.) There are big dreams in both of our hearts and I believe God has a huge testimony for my husband and I. I believe our story will encourage many who have walked through some of the same hard things. God turns dreams into realities my friends and tests into testimonies! Can I get another AMEN in the house?!

But we MUST play our part. A bag of gold isn't going to fall from the sky and land on your doorstep. One of the Bible verses I memorized years ago (Jeremiah 29:13) says, 'You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.' I encourage you today to seek the Lord, listen for His voice, His leading - and be obedient.

I was saying no to God's nudge to join Monat for 4 months because I honestly did not want to do it. I already did two MLM's previously and they didn't really go anywhere for me. I didn't want to start over. I didn't think one could work for me. I wasn't a salesperson. I am too busy. The list goes on and on. I was filled with fear and self doubt, truly. But if there's one thing I've learned in my Christian walk it's to listen for God's voice and to not ignore it. I knew He was telling me to say 'Yes' to this business because He wanted to do big things through it, so I did it. August 21st, 2017.

Is God calling you to do something and you've been ignoring him? Stubborn and saying no? His ways are always better than ours friends. His plans for us are good. We must learn to step into what He has for us. Even when that may feel uncomfortable or scary. Even when in my case, it was saying yes to selling shampoo. Because what's happening in my business is amazing and a huge blessing and what is coming is even more exciting! I feel major growth coming. A new season. Thank you Jesus for carrying us through the hard seasons and into the new ones!

If you ever want to learn more about what I do and this amazing opportunity please reach out to me through Facebook or shoot me a email! (mommaharrison@gmail.com) I love sharing my passion for this business and my passion to pour into more women and their dreams!

Oh and just another little 818 story for you that happened this morning, which is what stemmed this blog post. I was telling a friend about this awesome app. Five Minute Journal. (It's so great, my husband shared it with me years ago, so check it out!) I went to the App Store to take a screenshot of of it to show her what it looks like.

Notice anything??? 😭

My God is a crazy cool God!!!

I don't even have the words to start this blog post. I'm extremely sad that I'm even writing it. I feel numb, in shock, and just broken to my core.

Some of you may have heard me talk about my sweet friend Jackie, who has been battling cancer since 2012. We met in a online mom group in 2011 and instantly became friends. A fellow Christian mama and her daughter Chloe, was born the same month my Lincoln was born...it was a Babies of 2011 forum that we met in. Jackie was the only mom I connected with and got close to. I'm in Michigan and she was in Indiana - but we always talked about getting together one day to meet.

Fast forward to the day before my Hudson was born, December 14th, 2012. She found out she had breast cancer. Early thirties. Ugh. I will never forget it as she reached out to me a few days after Christmas and said this:

"Hey Lady! I want to congratulate you on your newest addition to your family! He is beautiful!! I don't like coming to you with bad news....but I have a prayer request for you...please pray for me?! I have been diagnosed with breast cancer. I am going to a fantastic Dr who is really going to take care of me :) I get a port put in Wed and chemo starts Thursday. We haven't told the kids yet....kind of going little by little with it to not totally shock them. Keri, I want you to know that God has filled me with the most amazing peace about this. I really feel like he is going to use this. Please keep my family in your prayers. Jackie."

I was heartbroken but was so thankful she had peace and we began to write back and forth about God's goodness, healing power and sharing scriptures. We kept in touch often via FB and I would ask for updates on how she was doing, how I could be praying for her, etc. She would be real with me, sharing her hard moments and tears but mostly it was sharing victories, big and small and rejoicing together in God's goodness to her.

Months later it was strong on my heart to photograph her family, the least I could do for her. I reached out and asked if this is something she would like and her excitement warmed my heart.

"Yes! Yes! That would be wonderful!!! I would love that Keri!!! :) And it will be so great to meet you in person!!! Even though we have never met....I feel that you are a great friend. :)"

She had lost all her hair at this point but she looked as beautiful as ever. I mean, just look at her. She's breathtaking.

It was so great to finally meet in person but of course I was sad at the same time seeing her fighting this battle. I wanted the session to be focused around Hope. Jackie was so hopeful, and so was I.

She fought and overcame cancer. But then it came back again in December of 2015. Ugh. She fought it yet again and was doing so so well. I went back again in August of 2015 to take some updated photos and this time her hair was grown back out and she looked so healthy, SO GOOD. It was so wonderful to see her and her family and catch up a bit!

Jackie's cancer returned yet again about a year or so ago maybe. For the third time. I honestly am not sure how long it's been, maybe it's been longer. But she has been doing well. As well as anyone can do for fighting cancer for a third time. I keep up with her and all that is going on and saw she had been in and out of the hospital for what looked like a UTI a couple months ago and was having a rough time. I didn't think much of it - other than I reached out to her on FB sharing a natural way that has helped me get rid of UTI's and hoped it would help.

Early last month I saw her mom make a post on FB and it mentioned wanting to get Jackie out of the hospital and into a hospice facility. My heart starting racing and I thought to myself. Hospice??? Why would she go into hospice care. I quickly went to her Facebook and also her page where she updates the latest with her in her journey scouring to read more. I was panicking when I heard the word hospice as I have only known hospice means you are nearing the end and I was like no no no. Not Jackie. She's going to be fine! She's doing fine! She has a UTI but I thought she was doing fine. This can't be right. Most comments I read were saying prayers for her but one mentioned to pray for her friend's family who is saying goodbye too soon.

I completely lost it. I was making my kids lunches getting them ready for school and I went into my food pantry, shut the door and sobbed. I just kept thinking this can't be right, I must be reading it wrong. She can't be dying. Oh God, please tell me she isn't dying!!!

Today, Jackie went to be with Jesus. I can't stop sobbing as I type this. My heart hurts so deeply.

I never heard Jackie talk about death. Not once. Her hope was in Jesus and I know she is with Him and there is so much comfort in that, but oh the sadness I feel today. She was always so positive. She was constantly posting Bible verses on healings and healing podcasts and testimonials and speaking life over her body and this awful disease. Her faith was so so strong.

I know this may sound ignorant, but I truly believed Jackie would get through this. Her passing away truly wasn't even in my thought process. It has completely caught me off guard, somehow.

There is a lump in my throat having to find my hard drives and pull out these photos. It is devastating for me looking through them. She is my age. Mid thirties. She is so young. She loved her family so fiercely, such a good wife & mom. I'm truly heartbroken and at a loss for words. I feel so angry at cancer and that this evil disease ripped away my friend from her family. I just cry every time I think about it. How do you say goodbye to your children at such a young age, knowing the heartache that will come for them without you in their lives? And how do you watch your children say goodbye to you? It wrecks me to my core. Their lives were changed forever today. Oh Jesus, please hold them so close. May they always know how much their mama loved them and may her memories never fade. Give them a peace that only you can bring Lord. Without you Jesus there would be no hope. Give John the strength to carry on and raise their children. Give Him so much grace Father, hold him close as He comforts his kids, while grieving deeply himself. Jesus hold her parents so close, we should never watch our children leave this earth. Comfort her brother Jesus, sisters are so special, how heartbreaking it must be. It's just not fair. Jesus surround them all with so many who will love on them, support them, bring food, encouragement and endless hugs. Jesus may they stay ever so close to you through this dark time and cling to you and only you to carry them through.

As broken as I am right now, I know that God is good. God's plan and will wasn't for HIS daughter to have cancer and suffer and leave her husband a widower and her children without their mother. Just gonna be completely honest....if you believe that, please refrain from commenting a "God must have had other plans for her." "God needed her more." "Sometimes God's will is hard." "God is in control" or any comments like this on this post because it will be deleted. It bothers me to no end to hear people talk like this. You must not know the God I know, because my God is good ALL the time and doesn't give His children cancer! Just like you or I wouldn't give our children cancer to teach them something. (And yes, I know the Old Testament story of Job, in case you're wondering). We live in a fallen world full of sickness, disease, evil and tragedy. This isn't our eternal home. So don't put every tragedy on God like it's His fault. As if He's to blame. Or as if it's His good and perfect plan. I'm just so sick of hearing these false doctrines. Sorry, not sorry.

As I shared above, Jackie told me God gave her peace and that she believed He would use this in her life and in others lives. I do believe that God uses hard things in our lives for His glory if we allow Him to. I do believe He brings beautiful things out of tragedy. I do believe He brings good out of the bad. But please do not mix that up with "This was God's plan for Jackie's life. To die in her thirties of a horrible disease and leave her 4 children without a mother and to leave her husband to raise them without the love of his life." That was NOT God's plan. It's the result of living on this earth and having to endure hardships. God using our trials for His glory and God GIVING us the trials are two very different things. And I believe a lot of Christians have this mixed up - but that's for another post, another day.

Jackie, my life is forever changed from knowing you friend. I'm heartbroken. I'm sad. I cry every time I think of you and John and the kids. But I rejoice and take comfort in knowing you are with your Savior and free of this long battle, but oh how I wish your ending had been so much different friend. I truly believed it would be so much different. I'm still in shock.

You praised Jesus in the storm, Jackie. You truly did. It says so much about who you were and WHOSE you were. Your peace was found in Jesus - the only one who can bring peace during our lowest of lows. God is pleased with you friend. I can only imagine what it must be like to be with him today. Our hearts hurt and grieve here on earth, but thinking of you pain free and whole and hanging with Jesus, it's pretty incredible.

I'll miss you so much, but know one day, I will see you again. What a day of rejoicing that will be. I love you, girl.

Do you ever see something, hear something, smell something.....and you immediately get taken back to a certain time in your life?

When I pull into the graveled winding driveway covered by trees to my grandparents cottage in Boyne, I am immediately filled with the best memories of my childhood. Being so excited to hop out of the car and run up to the door to the cottage to be embraced by my grandparents, excited to spend a week trying to catch minnows, fishing with Gramps, homemade waffles by Grams in the mornings, go out looking for deer at night with my dad's big spotlight and being overly excited year after year when we would spot them in the dark fields. Being told over and over again by Grams to keep the sliding door shut in the basement so the mice don't get in the house. (Hahaha, I still have not seen a mouse at the cottage all these years, but ya know, that one time my Grams did see one was enough for her). Their basement smelled like mildew and to this day it is one of my favorite smells in the entire world. Weird I know, my grandma hated it and would rarely go down there because of the smell, but for me it immediately brought joy, happiness and peace to my heart. It brought memories.

I used to love watching my Grandpa clean & gut the fish in the basement. It was like my favorite thing, I always watched and found it fascinating. This cottage will always give me all the feels.

Last week, I picked up my mother in law from the airport and she needed to be dropped off at her friends house, which happened to be in our old subdivision in Grand Blanc. I drove by our old home slowly...then stopped and took a photo. They've painted the outside since we've moved so it doesn't look quite the same but I was immediately filled with so many different emotions and thoughts.

You see, over a decade ago, my dreams were dashed. We bought this home with the main purpose being to start my licensed in home daycare. We completely finished the basement for this purpose and it was beautiful. I'm talking fifty grand beautiful. Gulp. It took a little time for my business to get established as I have mentioned in a previous blog post, but it was filling up with adorable kiddos and before I knew it I had myself a successful daycare business. What a dream. Keri's Kidz.

Then the economy took a tank. Oh hey there 2008! No offense, but you weren't my favorite. Ok ok, except for becoming a mom of my own babe that year. That was pretty fantastic.

However, the woman in our rental condo stopped paying, Jeremy was out of work and we were swimming in bills. We fought so hard to save our home and my business, but ultimately even though my business was finally doing well, it wasn't enough to cover two mortgages and all the other bills and we had to walk away. Sigh.

This began what would be a decade of financial struggle and hardship. More jobs lost, bankruptcy, walking away from jobs that weren't healthy, a car being repo'd, threatened lawsuits, employers telling my husband he's not cut out to be a business owner (God bless em'! This has been in my husbands heart since he was a young child so those words were rebuked real quick!), and many nights crying myself to sleep, not knowing how we would be able to pay all our bills and have our needs met. The last ten years have been hard to say the least.

But GOD.

When I see this home now, I see God's faithfulness.

I see how He carried us through it all.

I see His provision. He has met every need the last 10 years.

I see God's protection. He has protected our family from hard situations.

I see answered prayers.

So. Many. Answered. Prayers.

I see restoration. In our hearts. In our businesses. In relationships with people I prayed for there to be restoration with.

I believe we walked through hard things in our finances because God knew what was coming for our family. Never in a million years did I think I would be in a business selling shampoo and have my paycheck cover our mortgage payment. But God loves to surprise us. He loves to show off His goodness and faithfulness in our lives. He loves to turn our tests into testimonies.

There have been some huge dreams in our hearts for a long time, specifically one of my husbands. We have talked about it since our dating years, almost two decades ago.

We have been actively pursing the dreams God has put in our hearts. Me through my social media based business (it's so much more than shampoo! That's just the stepping stone God is using for dreams to become a reality) and Jeremy....well, we have some really exciting things going on in our lives right now....that are ALL GOD....dreams we have prayed about and believed we would see God do, even during the past 10 years when I'm sure everyone else in our lives would think we are cray cray for even walking towards them (hence why we haven't shared them really with anyone.) To be barely surviving financially for a decade but yet you believe God is going to do huge things in your finances, through your dreams.

But see faith is being certain of what we cannot see. In the natural, I'm sure sharing our dreams... "We're gonna do _____ one day!" would be laughable to most. Umm, ok Harrison's, you've lost a home, businesses, walked away from jobs, went bankrupt....surrrree thing. *awkward smile and nod*

But peoples opinions don't matter. People have tried to stop the calling over our lives. Threatened lawsuits. Jeremy and I have both had people threaten to have our businesses shut down. BOTH OF US. Ha! If that ain't the devil at work, I don't know what is. (Another blog post on that to come soon.) People have spoken many words over us that have come against what we know our testimony would be one day. They've tried to stop the calling on our lives with their words, and with their actions...but God always shows up. GOD WILL ALWAYS SHOW UP! Repeat it until you believe it in the depths of your souls, friends. He will never abandon you, even if you may feel abandoned and alone. He is there. I promise you, He is there.

We are not promised easy lives, just because we know Jesus. But when the hard times roll in, which they will, whether it be through financial hardship, marital issues, loss, illness, we have hope in Jesus. We have Him to hold on to and carry us through the storms.

All I know is God never left us during that hard season. I believe walking through financial hardship will forever keep us humbled, grateful, generous, compassionate people. We have learned to be content with little and we have held on to the dreams He has put in our hearts from long ago, believing that even though in the natural those dreams seemed nowhere in sight, that we needed to continue to wait and trust in His timing...His plan...because now we are buckling up for the exciting adventure He is about to take us on!

I can't wait to share more when we can, all in God's timing. But friends, storms don't last forever. Eventually, you'll see the rainbow. His promises fulfilled.

After 6 months of trying for a baby, I was SO excited to find out we were pregnant with out first baby.

On Father's Day.

I'll never forget testing early in the morning and seeing that word 'Pregnant' for the first time and running upstairs and jumping on Jeremy waking him up with the news!

I remember it was a Sunday morning and I was so excited to share with my good friend Brooke Cooke. One really neat thing was weeks prior we were hanging out with our dear friends Adam and Brooke and they knew we were having trouble getting pregnant. Adam prayed over us and I remember so clearly him thanking God for this baby. It hit me funny afterwards because I wasn't pregnant....

Except I was. I just didn't know it yet.

You see, you cannot speak defeat in your lives and expect victory. As a daughter of Christ, I think it's crucial to speak life over and into each and every part of our life. To speak His promises, His truths, His goodness and believe for the impossible.

I was due on February 18th and I wanted him to be born on Valentine's Day so badly. Jeremy proposed to me on V day and I thought it would be super special to welcome our first child and become parents five years later.

Sure enough on February 13th at midnight as I was just climbing into bed, my water broke!! I could not believe it, I was going to get my Valentine's baby!!

It amazes me because we went on to have 5 more babies after E and every single one of them came late, my water never broke on it's own and I had to be induced. Just amazing! God cares about the details of our lives friends. It's my favorite Bible verse.

"The Lord directs the steps of the Godly, He delights in every detail of their lives." Psalm 37:23

As I mentioned, the day we found out was Father's Day and the day he was born was Valentine's Day and I remember thinking this is the "Father's Love" (Father's Day/Valentine's Day) for me. It sent chills up my spine and my heart was overwhelmed with gratefulness to God for giving us the gift of our first child, our son, Ethan Craig.

Ethan is Hebrew and means firm, strong. His middle name Craig is after my brother Craig, who I've always loved and adored more than life itself. Craig means 'Rock'. So, he's a strong rock.

His name couldn't be more fitting. He is a special kid. He has an extremely sensitive heart, he's so caring and thoughtful, compassionate. He is the perfect older brother to lead our pack. He's cool, he's handsome, smart, and really good in math. (Thank God, Lord knows I could never help him with his homework!) He's a perfectionist and clean freak like his momma. He likes order. He's an incredible athlete, plays travel soccer and other parents are constantly coming up to us asking us, "Is that your boy? He's SO fast!". He is talented yet doesn't brag and rarely will even show excitement for his achievements in sports (his coach is still working on that with him and will say...."Ethan, be excited!! It's ok to be excited!!) Haha.

He loves cars like my brother (how fitting since he is named after him), loves Fortnite and he is our only child that comes and finds both Jeremy and I every morning before school to kiss us on the cheek and tell us he loves us. E-L-E-V-E-N years old you guys. (Insert sob session here).

He's truly one of life's greatest gifts to me. Ethan, I love you so much. You are the light of my life and you melt me. You are going to make some woman the happiest wife one day with your big heart and being so thoughtful of those around you and their feelings. You are such an incredible leader to your siblings and always strive to do the right thing. You are a Godly kid, who is extremely hard on himself when you make mistakes. It's ok bud, we can't always be perfect. You are growing up to be an adult before my eyes and it's hard for this momma....but when I look at you E, I feel extremely proud. Proud to call you my son. Proud to be your momma.

Happy 11 years, kid. You're gonna do great things in this life, I know it.

Every year I feel God gives my husband or I a word of phrase of some sort for the upcoming year. One year it was "The best is yet to come". Another year it was "It is what it is" (that was an interesting one but proved to be relevant). Last year (2018) my word was Hope.

I remember we were on our way to a local waterpark for a couple nights over Christmas break and I was asking God to give me a word for 2018. It wasn't a minute later we passed a church that had the letters H-O-P-E lit up. They were huge letters and so bright. I wish I would have taken a photo.

I'm always amazed that when I look back on the year, it always makes sense. Like when I start the year I have no clue why that's what God is telling me and yet there are confirmations always and then I look back and think 'yup, that was so right on'.

This past year was incredibly bittersweet for me personally. We experienced life and loss this year. Little did I know that when God gave me the word 'Hope', that we were expecting baby number six, a little girl, who we named Maven Hope. Her name means "one who understands hope". I shared her amazing story on my FB page a day after she was born if you missed it and care to listen you can find the video below. It is probably the most emotional I have ever been on a live and is pretty raw, but it is such a huge part of our testimony... and all such a God story that I knew I was supposed to share it with the world.

You can watch it here...

A month or two after finding out we were having a little girl, Jeremy's dad's health really started to decline. He has had health problems most of his life but God had sustained him for so long regardless. But on April 24th, 2018 he went to be with Jesus.

This was by far the deepest sadness and grief I have experienced in life so far. Without turning this blog post into a book, he was one of the biggest influencers in my life and he healed my heart in such deep ways, by simply having him as my father in law. He loved me as a daughter, and it was truly God's gift to me. The cherry on top to marrying Jeremy! Ha.

Ray holding Lincoln, our 3rd kiddo

I will never forget my last conversation with him. His heart was only functioning at 15%, he could barely speak and would gasp with each breath, and yet he comforted me as I freely cried in front of him, telling him how much he has meant to me.

He was preaching the gospel in his last waking moments. Which was so fitting as he lived and breathed all things Jesus. He had his flaws, as we all do, but was one of the most Godly men I have ever known and probably will ever know. I am holding back tears just talking about him, I miss him so much. We shared so many good conversations and I miss his presence. But knowing he is healthy, breathing at 100%, no more asthma, no crooked bones, it is incredibly comforting.

But the word Hope was so fitting for us in 2018. Our daughter brought Hope. The hope of heaven and to see Ray again one day. Hope for our future as God has been pouring out his abundance on our businesses after a long season of lack. It was the perfect word for 2018.

I feel my word for 2019 is... Purpose.

We were all created for a purpose and my desire is for everyone who comes across this blog to know it in their hearts and believe it!

Like really believe it. You were not a mistake. You were born for a reason. You are unique. There is no one else like you! God formed every fiber of your being. You were created for a purpose.

"We humans keep brainstorming options and plans, but God's purpose prevails." - Proverbs 19:21

"There's an opportune time to do things, a right time for everything on the earth." - Ecclesiastes 3:1

"The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever." - Psalm 138:8

I want my life to always have purpose. I want to be intentional in my marriage. I want to purposely do things to show love to my husband and children. I want to bless and give more with purpose in 2019. I want to purposely write down my goals for the year and go after them. I want to purposely take more photos of my children...(so I joined a Project 52 group this year to help keep me accountable.)

Purpose.

I've always loved to write and I used to have a personal blog but it's been years since I've written and I felt God birthing this in me. The name. The logo. The blog entries. A new season. A new purpose to blog. I'm sure it will be a mix of things, I really don't even know as I want God to lead it. But I'm excited to write again as I feel led.

You were created for a purpose. Speak it until you believe it friends!

The answer to that question is pretty simple...

Earlier this year I felt God asking me to share my story. While I consider myself pretty open & authentic, some things are hard to share with the world and one thing in particular felt very personal. But if I've learned anything in the past decade it's that when God speaks, I need to listen & just do it. (Geez Nike, you really did come up with a winner there.)

Soooo hi, I'm Keri. I'm a Michigander who hates being cold, wife to a cute redhead, stay at home mama of six (yes, I do know where babies come from and yes they are all mine... *insert eye roll here*).

I'm also a professional photographer and because my life doesn't sound busy enough, I joined a direct sales company 16 months ago that is changing my life.

It's funny really, I never would consider myself a dreamer when I was young. My parents weren't ones to talk about going after your dreams. I didn't go to college. All I wanted when I was young was to be a mom when I grew up. That was about it folks.

But about 12 years ago, I realized I am indeed a dreamer. A go getter. A hustler. I left my corporate 9-5 job to start my own in home licensed daycare. The year prior to leaving my job I dreamed about making it perfect. We purchased a beautiful home in a nice neighborhood with the intentions of finishing the basement for my daycare, Keri's Kidz. It was a labor of love. 1800 square feet of space we designed just for kids. A colorful fun space I thought little ones would enjoy and feel happy being in. Cute little lockers for each child with their name on it. It really was a special place.

I've always loved kids. I babysat as soon as I was old enough, I worked at a daycare, I was a nanny, my life pretty much revolved around little people. So having my own daycare made sense. We spent a lot of time (ahem, and money) making it perfect and thinking of every little detail. So many people knew me and loved me as a caregiver I just knew it was going to be amazing and my business was going to take off!

But then it didn't.

It was SO hard to get my first client. While I did have great references I failed to realize that I was in a town where no one knew me. It was only 30 minutes from where I grew up babysitting, nannying, etc. but no one knew who I was... and if you're going to leave your child in someone's care all day, it's kinda a big deal and you probably want a place that is established or a place that has great reviews.

I didn't have either. Sigh.

Looking back, I feel this was a defining moment for me. Not just in my business but in life honestly. Little did I know what the next decade would unfold for me & my family. Bumps in the road. Hard seasons. Painful decisions. Humbling moments. But in that moment... after many months of trying to get my business off the ground I asked myself, "Am I a quitter or a fighter?"

I'm a fighter.

I didn't have it in me to quit. Even though in the natural it seemed like maybe I made a big fat mistake. Maybe I missed God's voice. But see, just because things don't go the way we think or hope, doesn't mean we missed God. Let me say that again...

Just because things don't go the way we think or hope, doesn't mean we missed God!

We have to trust the process...

I went out the next day and purchased a huge pack of 8.5 x 11 neon paper and made flyers for my business. I then drove to our local Walmart and started placing them on the windshields of every car in the parking lot.

Because my dreams are worth it.

I was willing to do whatever it took. Keri's Kidz was just the beginning of many dreams and new adventures to come, and I'm sure I'll come back to it at some point, but I went on to have a full daycare of little people, employees and all!

But I could have quit. I could have said I failed. I could have said this isn't for me. I could have said I don't know what I'm doing. I could have said I don't have what it takes to be successful.

Lies. All lies.

Whose voice are you listening to today?

Are there dreams in your heart you want to pursue but instead you're believing all those same lies? Do you surround yourself with people who believe in you and your dreams? People who speak life into you and those dreams? Do you feel God is calling you to step out but you're afraid and holding yourself back? If so, I feel you girl... and stay tuned for a upcoming blog post where I touch on that very thing.

So, to wrap up why I started Motivated Mom Boss... ultimately I started this space to glorify God through sharing my story. My hope is to encourage & inspire other women like me to believe in themselves and go after their dreams. That is my vision for MMB and also the vision I had of my adorable little logo I had designed (shout out to Nichole Krenz!).

I wanted the logo to scream "You got this... you can do whatever you set your mind to!" Nichole made my vision come to life and it portrays me perfectly. A mama of six juggling motherhood, photography and running a social media based business... because my dreams are worth it!

I hope you know yours are too!
